The Truth About
Infectious Disease

What your doctor may not tell you.

Antibiotics can manage an infection — but rarely address why your body let it take hold in the first place.

Most Infections Have a Deeper Root Cause

Antibiotics can temporarily manage most infectious disease — but in my experience, there's almost always a deeper cause underneath, and it's one that's actually within your control.

Why Some People Get Sick and Others Don't

Two people can have the exact same exposure to the exact same infection, and one gets ill while the other doesn't. What explains that difference? There's actually a name for it: terrain theory — the idea that how resilient your body is to infection depends on how strong and well-maintained it is. Give anyone a big enough dose of a nasty pathogen, and they'll get sick. But in real life, exposure rarely works that way — how healthy you are plays a major role in whether you get sick at all.

Treating the Infection Isn't Enough

When I treat infectious disease, it's not only about eliminating the pathogen itself — it's about shoring up whatever vulnerability let the illness take hold in the first place. I see this constantly with chronic Lyme disease: it's never just about clearing the infection, it's about fixing whatever allowed someone to fall ill to begin with. Looking at both sides together — the infection and the underlying vulnerability — gives a genuinely more holistic approach to health.
